May is a recent graduate from Harvard College concentrating in History of Science with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. She is currently working as a part-time research assistant on the EMPOWER project, which aims to create a digital training platform to build a mental health workforce. She is interested in the history and medical anthropology of mental illness, specifically in the relationship between societal conceptions of mental disorders and how their impact on individual experiences. In her capacities as both a research assistant for the Patel lab and a peer counselor at Harvard, she seeks to address the gap between mental health burden and treatment and develop new ways to care for individuals with mental illness.
