Dr. Nida Zahid

Dr. Nida Zahid is a postdoctoral research fellow who holds an MBBS, a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and a PhD in Medical Sciences from Uppsala University, Sweden. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. Dr. Zahid serves as an Assistant Professor and former Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, Pakistan and is an affiliated researcher at Uppsala University, Sweden. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and secured over 10 research grants funded by the AKU Seed Money & University Research Council, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, and the Fulbright–PAUN program (USA). Her research focuses on mental health, particularly neurocognitive outcomes, resilience, and quality of life in cancer patients.

Dr. Zahid serves on the AKU Grant Review, Ethics Review, Undergraduate Medical Education Research Module, and Medical College Research committees; she is also a member of the Pakistan Society of Basic and Applied Neurosciences; and a reviewer for more than 40 international journals as well as national and international granting agencies. She has served on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Psychology and Frontiers in Psychiatry and has received the Department of Surgery’s “Research Scientist of the Year” awards (2019, 2024) and the AKU University Award for Excellence in Research (2021). She is also deeply involved in teaching and mentorship, supervising undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students at AKU as well as at Uppsala University.
